Stylecraft Bambino Yarn Review – Why It's Joined My Core Crochet Range

When you crochet for babies, choosing the right yarn is about far more than colour. It needs to be soft against delicate skin, easy to care for, durable enough for everyday wear and — if you're making items to sell — enjoyable to work with hour after hour without your hands staging a protest.

After hearing so many good things about Stylecraft Bambino, I decided it was time to put it to the real test. Not a quick swatch. Actual hats and booties, made properly, to see whether it could earn a permanent place in my basket.

Spoiler: it could. And it did.

First Impressions

The first thing I noticed was the lovely soft feel — Bambino has a gentle sheen that gives finished projects a polished look, while the smooth texture creates beautifully defined stitches.

The second thing I noticed was the weight. Bambino is a double knit thickness, and for my hands, that matters more than I can overstate. The DK weight makes it kind on the hands for longer sessions, which for a maker who crochets every day is not a small thing.

While there are luxury yarns that feel even softer, Bambino strikes exactly the balance I need between quality, durability, value and — crucially — hand comfort.
