King Cole Baby Pure Yarn Review – Part 2: Another Colour, Same Verdict
Share
After my first test of King Cole Baby Pure, I wasn't quite ready to put it back on the shelf.
The yarn itself was beautiful to work with. Soft, silky and a genuine pleasure to crochet. It was the colour placement in Baby Turquoise that hadn't quite won me over.
So, naturally, I tried another colour.
All in the name of research. The yarn basket would probably call it something else.
A Second Chance for Baby Pure
In my first review, I wondered whether a different shade might be the answer. Perhaps I just hadn't found the right colourway for my crochet.
This second test was a chance to find out whether Baby Pure could earn a place in my handmade baby range, rather than simply a place in my rather enthusiastic yarn collection.
And the result?
Another colour, but much the same verdict.
Still Beautiful to Crochet With
One thing hasn't changed: Baby Pure is beautiful to work with.
That was what made me want to give it another chance in the first place, and it's still the part I find hardest to walk away from.
There is a real difference between a yarn you can crochet with and a yarn you genuinely enjoy crocheting with. Baby Pure sits firmly in the second category for me.
If I were choosing purely on the pleasure of working with it, this would be a very short review.
Unfortunately, my hook doesn't get the final say.

Another Colour, the Same Problem
I hoped a different colourway would give me a result I preferred. But the colour placement still wasn't quite right for the look I want in my crochet.
That's a personal preference, not a fault with the yarn.
Someone else could look at the same result and absolutely love it. That's part of the charm of colour-changing yarns: what feels a little too unpredictable to one person can be exactly what another person enjoys.
For me, though, changing the colour hasn't changed the answer.
I can love working with a yarn without loving how its colours come together in my crochet. Baby Pure has now reminded me of that twice.
Will Baby Pure Join My Range?
No, I won't be adding King Cole Baby Pure to my range.
It's tempting to keep giving a lovely yarn one more chance, especially when it feels so nice to work with. But choosing yarn for my range means looking at the whole result, not just enjoying the making.
I need to feel happy with the finished look as well as the yarn in my hands.
After trying another colour and reaching the same conclusion, I feel ready to draw a line under this particular experiment.
Beautiful to work with? Yes.
The right fit for my range? No.
Both things can be true.

My Final Thoughts
I'm glad I gave King Cole Baby Pure another try. My first review left a question open, and this second test has helped me answer it.
This isn't a yarn I'm dismissing as unpleasant or disappointing to crochet with. Quite the opposite. The making has been the lovely part.
It's simply not giving me the colour result I'm looking for, and a second colourway hasn't changed that.
So Baby Pure won't be joining my handmade baby range, but it leaves this little yarn adventure with its reputation for being beautiful to work with very much intact.
Sometimes a yarn can be lovely without being my yarn.
Now, about that yarn basket...
