Stash busting crochet blanket joined in white with a neat border

The Stash Busting Crochet Blanket #1

Confessions of a Yarn Collector

A series about turning yarn leftovers into something beautiful.

The confessions continue…

Just when you thought the bunting might have satisfied the ever-growing yarn basket, along comes another idea. Because really, why stop at just one stash project?

While I’m still playing with bunting colourways, the “magic collection” of ball ends was sitting there, quietly suggesting something bigger. Something cosier. Something square.

The Stash Busting Blanket #1

This stash busting crochet blanket began the same way as the bunting — by simply reaching into the basket and pulling out whatever came to hand. No overthinking. No master plan. Just letting the colours guide the way.

Each square was made from leftover lengths that were too good to waste. Small amounts on their own, but together they created a joyful scrap yarn crochet blanket full of personality. That’s the beauty of stash projects — the freedom to mix, match and experiment without worrying about dye lots or running out of a full skein.

Square by square, this granny square blanket grew into something far more satisfying than the individual scraps ever suggested. And somewhere along the way it became clear this wouldn’t be the last one.

From Basket to Blanket

There’s something deeply satisfying about turning what feels like “odds and ends” into a finished blanket. The colours don’t need to be perfectly planned — that’s part of the charm of a stash busting crochet blanket. Each square carries a little piece of the stash’s story.

I loved making this one so much that, just like the bunting, it didn’t stop at the finished piece.

There is now both a ready-made blanket available and a granny square blanket pattern too — perfect if you have your own basket of leftovers waiting patiently for their moment.

To Be Continued…

And as for the stash? Let’s just say it hasn’t noticeably reduced.

I have a feeling this confession series may run for quite some time…
